North Carolina's most experienced inspectors Steve Smallman Property Inspections (SSPI) inspectors have performed or supervised over 25,000 inspections since we introduced home inspections to the Triangle area in 1980. No one has more experience or knows local conditions better than SSPI inspectors. Our inspectors are: Lead inspector and company owner Steve Smallman was the first full-time, ASHI-certified home inspector in the Triangle, founding Home Check Systems in 1980. The firm grew to eight inspectors before it was sold in 2004. Steve is also a N.C. licensed general contractor. He was a member and past-chairman of the N.C. Home Inspector Licensure Board and was instrumental in the licensing of home inspectors. He chaired or served on the committees that established the state-mandated Standards of Practice, and the home inspector Licensure Examination. Gary Sutton is now in his seventh year as a full-time home inspector, and until he joined SSPI he served as Area Manager, supervising a team of eight home inspectors, for the Triangle division of a large national inspection company. Gary has performed or supervised over 5,000 home inspections. Bruce Becker is in his sixth year as a full-time home inspector, and he is also a North Carolina licensed general contractor. Bruce’s expertise includes commercial property inspections, termite inspections, and radon gas testing, as well as home inspections.
